Description

This is the Tamiya 1/24 scale Honda Prelude plastic model kit, part of Tamiya’s long-running Sports Car Series that remains the reference standard for serious scale builders. Tamiya has tooled multiple Prelude generations across decades, and each release carries the same engineering signature: parts that actually fit, instructions a beginner can follow, and detail that holds up when a veteran builder takes a magnifier to the engine bay. The Honda Prelude itself needs no introduction at a Honda parts counter — it’s the car that taught a generation of enthusiasts what a front-wheel-drive sport coupe could be.

The kit is supplied unbuilt and unpainted in injection-molded styrene, with the body shell molded in color appropriate to the release. Roughly 100 parts span the body, chassis pan, interior tub, engine, suspension, and wheels, plus separate clear sprues for glazing and lenses. A waterslide decal sheet covers badges, license plates, and instrument graphics. Polycaps at the wheel hubs let the finished model roll and let you swap wheels if you build more than one — a Tamiya convention that builders still appreciate decades later.

Construction follows the standard Tamiya 1/24 sequence: engine and transmission first, then chassis with suspension and exhaust, interior tub with separate seats and dash, body prep and paint, glazing, then final assembly. Tires are vinyl with sidewall lettering. The hood opens on most Prelude tooling variants to reveal the assembled engine. Pop-up headlights, where the generation calls for them, are molded as separate pieces so the builder can pose them up or down. None of this needs glue beyond standard plastic cement and none of it needs anything beyond Tamiya’s own paint range — though most builders bring their own preferences.

Badging on the finished model is Honda Prelude — the actual car, the actual decals, no fantasy liveries. This is a plastic model kit, not a pre-built diecast: nothing is assembled, nothing is painted, and the box does not include glue, paint, brushes, or sandpaper. Builders new to Tamiya should plan for liquid cement, a hobby knife, and at minimum a primer plus a body color from any standard model paint line.

Single SKU, no variants — you get the kit Tamiya boxed. Stock at the parts counter is what’s on the shelf; Tamiya periodically reissues popular Honda subjects, so availability comes and goes with the production runs out of Shizuoka. If the listing says in stock, it’s in stock.
