Description

The Tamiya 1/24 Honda S2000 captures the AP1-generation roadster that anchored Honda’s 50th anniversary in 1999. Tamiya tooled this kit from direct factory reference, which is why the proportions read correctly from any angle — the long hood, the cab-rearward seating position, the short rear deck that made the S2000 unmistakable on the street. It sits in the Sports Car series alongside Tamiya’s NSX and Civic Type R kits, the catalog that quietly defined what a serious scale Honda kit looks like.

The kit is injection-molded styrene at 1/24 scale, finished length roughly 173 mm. Body shell molds in red with separate clear parts for the headlights, windshield, and side glass. Five-spoke wheels come chromed on the tree, wrapped in synthetic rubber tires with sidewall lettering. The F20C inline-four is built up as a multi-piece subassembly with the intake manifold, valve cover, and exhaust header molded separately so the engine bay reads correctly under an opened hood.

Construction uses Tamiya’s standard polystyrene cement and acrylic paint workflow. Most parts assemble with locating pins that actually align; the few sub-assemblies that need clamping during cure are obvious from the instruction sequence. The decal sheet includes the S2000 badging, instrument cluster faces, and Honda H marks. A separate detail sheet covers license plates and minor trim. The kit is unbuilt and unpainted — paint, cement, and basic hobby knife are the buyer’s responsibility.

The interior tub molds as a single piece with separate seats, dashboard, steering wheel, and shifter. The convertible top is supplied as a separate hardtop-style piece; the kit does not include a soft-top in the down position. Suspension components are static — this is a display model, not a slot car, so the wheels rotate but the suspension does not articulate. Honda’s red-line F20C tachometer is rendered on the instrument decal, a detail Tamiya gets right where most 1/24 manufacturers don’t bother.

Sold as a single sealed kit; no variant options. Tamiya rates the build at skill level 2, which means a clean result is reachable for a builder with one or two kits already under the belt, and a contest-quality result is reachable for anyone willing to spend an afternoon on the engine bay and another on paint prep. The S2000 is one of the kits Tamiya keeps in continuous production, so spare-parts orders through Tamiya USA remain practical years after purchase.
